\nThere are some people who will do anything for attention. It doesn\u2019t seem to matter how embarrassing or humiliating it will be, as long as they get noticed.
\nFacebook is a very good example of that.
\nThere are a lot of people who post every little detail of their personal life for everyone to see.
\nDon\u2019t people have any dignity and pride anymore? Is there no sense of shame when it comes to the allure of fleeting celebrity?
\nA guy I know took a vivid picture of his severely infected foot and posted it with the question\u2026 \u201cDoes anyone know how to get rid of foot fungus?\u201d<\/em>
\nI immediately called him up\u2026
\n\u201cHello.\u201d
\nI said, \u201cAre you that desperate for attention?\u201d
\n\u201cWhat, Paul?\u201d
\n\u201cWhat?<\/em> Did you really feel the need to post that sickening photo of your revolting foot for the whole world to see?\u201d
\n\u201cWell\u2026\u201d
\n\u201cWell?<\/em> If your foot is badly infected, there are plenty of other ways you could have handled it, other than putting it on Facebook.\u201d
\n\u201cI guess.\u201d
\n\u201cSeriously. You could have made a doctor\u2019s appointment or gone to a walk-in clinic\u2026 You could have researched it on WebMD\u2026 You could have done a Google search and typed in \u2018gross and\/or disgusting ailments.\u2019
\n\u201cOr you might have gone to CVS or Walgreens and whispered discreetly to the pharmacist, when no one else was looking, \u2018Pssst,,, Shhhhhhh, please keep it down\u2026 Listen, do you have anything for foot fungus?\u2019<\/em>
\n\u201cBut nooooo, you had to share your secret shame with the entire world.\u201d
\n\u201cI-I-I\u2026\u201d
\n\u201cI-I-I?\u2026<\/em> What was your purpose? Were you afraid that someone was going to try and steal your new sneakers at the gym and you wanted to discourage them from going anywhere near your contaminated shoes?\u201d
\n\u201cNo, Paul.\u201d
\n\u201cMaybe you trying to reach out to all of your friends and acquaintances to start-up a foot fungus support group, is that it? Maybe you can call it \u2018Fun Guys Against Fungi.\u2019 \u201d
\n\u201cNo.\u201d
\n\u201cWere you hoping to attract the attention of a single girl with equally repulsive feet so the two of you would have something in common to talk about?\u201d
\n\u201cNo.\u201d
\n\u201cThen why would you put something private like that on Facebook?\u201d
\n\u201cI don\u2019t know, Paul.\u201d
\n\u201cYou don\u2019t know?<\/em> That\u2019s a good answer\u2026 Well, I hope you\u2019re happy. You got a lot of peoples\u2019 attention\u2026 You got those sympathetic comments from close friends and other people you hardly know, or never really talk to, and they gave you your moment in the spotlight\u2026 so you\u2019re famous now.
\n\u201cFrom now on, whenever people look at you, they\u2019re going to point and go\u2026 \u2018Gross! It\u2019s that guy with the nasty feet!\u2019<\/em>
\n\u2018Ya, it\u2019s him! There\u2019s a fungus among-us!\u2019\u00a0“<\/em>
\n\u201cI guess you have a point, Paul. I didn\u2019t think of that.\u201d
\n\u201cYou should have\u2026 I hate to tell you, but no one is gonna be asking you to join them in the Jacuzzi anytime soon.
\n\u201cAnd you can forget about getting into to any Japanese restaurants around here. They\u2019re not going to let you take your shoes off and risk scaring the other diners.
\n\u201cAnd it also looks like I\u2019m now longer going to be able to attend the pool party at your house that you invited me to, which is really the purpose of my call.
