Who is the comedian/writer/actor
that The Los Angeles Times calls "…quite likely the funniest entertainer
you've never heard of… yet"? Paul Murphy spent ten and a half years as an Assistant District Attorney, supervising several of Massachusetts’s busiest courthouses, before building a reputation as a noted criminal-defense trial attorney. The unexpected twist to this story is that, for nine of those years, under the pseudonym of Paul D’Angelo, Paul was simultaneously becoming one of the nation’s top standup comedians. While maintaining a full-time legal career, Paul rose from open-miker to headliner in less than six months and was selected to host his own weekly show at Boston’s two premier comedy clubs, Nick’s Comedy Stop and the Comedy Connection, for six and two years respectively. In 1989 Paul had the honor of being chosen as a national finalist representing Boston in the Johnny Walker Comedy Search and was named "Boston’s Best Comedian" in 1994 and 1995 by Boston Magazine… no insignificant feat in a city which has produced enormously successful comedy stars such as Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, Paula Poundstone, Steven Wright, Anthony Clarke, Bobcat Goldthwait and Denis Leary. In 1997, Paul was honored to be invited as a feature performer at the Montreal ‘Just for Laughs’ International Comedy Festival. Paul was also a national finalist in the 1999 San Francisco International Comedy Competition; he was a national finalist representing Boston in the 'Laughs Across America' comedy search sponsored by the Las Vegas Comedy Festival; and he was also a national finalist, chosen from among thousands of contestants across the country, in the 2005 Sierra Mist / Improv 'Next Great Comic Search'. In addition, Paul is the writer/director/co-star of the original sitcom pilot 'A Fine Mess' which was featured at the prestigious New York International Independent Film Festival in 2002. He is currently co-starring in Showtime’s 'Godfathers of Comedy' stand-up comedy special directed by Rocco Urbisci. Paul’s has entertained many prominent corporate clients throughout the
nation including Ford Motor Co., MITA Corp., Sony Music Corp., Hasbro /
Milton-Bradley Corp., Hewlett-Packard Corp., Fidelity Investments, American
Airlines, Delta Airlines, Bike Athletic Corp., Nike-Bauer International and
the Burger King Corporation. In addition, Paul has performed at casinos in
Las Vegas and Atlantic City, on Norwegian Cruise Lines, and at many colleges
including Harvard University, Lehigh University, UNH, Boston University and
U. Massachusetts. |
