PAUL DANGELO
|
Who is the comedian/writer/actor
that The Los Angeles Times calls "…quite likely the funniest entertainer
you've never heard of… yet"?
Paul Murphy spent ten and a half years as an Assistant District Attorney,
supervising several of Massachusetts’s busiest courthouses, before building
a reputation as a noted criminal-defense trial attorney. The unexpected
twist to this story is that, for nine of those years, under the pseudonym of
Paul D’Angelo, Paul was simultaneously becoming one of the nation’s top
standup comedians.
While maintaining a full-time legal career, Paul rose from open-miker to
headliner in less than six months and was selected to host his own weekly
show at Boston’s two premier comedy clubs, Nick’s Comedy Stop and the Comedy
Connection, for six and two years respectively. In 1989 Paul had the honor
of being chosen as a national finalist representing Boston in the Johnny
Walker Comedy Search and was named "Boston’s Best Comedian" in 1994 and 1995
by Boston Magazine… no insignificant feat in a city which has produced
enormously successful comedy stars such as Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, Paula
Poundstone, Steven Wright, Anthony Clarke, Bobcat Goldthwait and Denis
Leary. In 1997, Paul was honored to be invited as a feature performer at the
Montreal ‘Just for Laughs’ International Comedy Festival. Paul was also a
national finalist in the 1999 San Francisco International Comedy
Competition; he was a national finalist representing Boston in the 'Laughs
Across America' comedy search sponsored by the Las Vegas Comedy Festival;
and he was also a national finalist, chosen from among thousands of
contestants across the country, in the 2005 Sierra Mist / Improv 'Next Great
Comic Search'. In addition, Paul is the writer/director/co-star of the
original sitcom pilot 'A Fine Mess' which was featured at the prestigious
New York International Independent Film Festival in 2002. He is currently
co-starring in the soon to be released 'Godfathers of Comedy' stand-up
comedy feature-length motion picture directed by Rocco Urbisci.
Paul’s has entertained many prominent corporate clients throughout the
nation including Ford Motor Co., MITA Corp., Sony Music Corp., Hasbro /
Milton-Bradley Corp., Hewlett-Packard Corp., Fidelity Investments, American
Airlines, Delta Airlines, Bike Athletic Corp., Nike-Bauer International and
the Burger King Corporation. In addition, Paul has performed at casinos in
Las Vegas and Atlantic City, on Norwegian Cruise Lines, and at many colleges
including Harvard University, Lehigh University, UNH, Boston University and
U. Massachusetts.
As evidence of his adaptability, Paul has been selected to open up for over
forty nationally known recording artists as diversified as rhythm and blues
greats Ray Charles, the Four Tops, the Temptations and Patti LaBelle; rock
and roll legends Huey Lewis and the News, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Beach Boys,
Chicago, the Righteous Bros., Aretha Franklin and Hall & Oates;
country-western stars Lyle Lovett, Tanya Tucker and the Oakridge Boys;
comedians George Carlin, Joan Rivers and Dennis Miller; and mature artists
such as Tony Bennett, Englebert Humperdinck and Bobby Vinton, in various
theater venues accommodating audiences of up to 5000+ people.
While living in Hollywood, CA, Paul appeared regularly at the Hollywood
Improvisation and Laugh Factory and performed as a headliner at the Ice
House and the Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, CA, arguably the
country’s most discriminating non-showcase stand-up comedy venue that
regularly features performers such as Jay Leno, Bill Maher, Gary Shandling,
Ray Romano, Howie Mandel, Arsenio Hall and Richard Jeni.
Combining an energetic, charismatic stage presence and spontaneous
improvisational talent with an endless array of intelligent humor delivered
in an animated style that grabs and holds the attention of crowds everywhere
he performs, Paul’s constantly evolving and diverse selection of original
material "takes normal everyday experiences and makes them sound absolutely
hilarious." Critics further write that "(Paul D’Angelo) is an energetic
performer who gives a peak performance at every show." "His quick comedic
mind," "unique observations" and "down to earth, stop-and-think humor"
"keeps the crowd in hysterics." |
